The man and the staircase

A GPT4 short story.

Once upon a time, in the sleepy village of Stairwell, there lived a man named Roger. He was a peculiar man with an extraordinary ability. Whenever he walked down the stairs, he would see strange things that nobody else could. It was a gift, or perhaps a curse, that had bewildered him since his childhood. As he grew older, he became increasingly accustomed to his bizarre encounters, using them as a source of inspiration for his paintings.

On a gloomy Tuesday morning, Roger decided to visit the town’s ancient tower, known as the Eerie Spire. This tower was a well-known attraction for tourists and locals alike, and it had a winding staircase with exactly 100 steps. Little did Roger know that this visit would turn out to be an adventure of a lifetime.

As he approached the first step of the Eerie Spire, Roger braced himself for the visions that would inevitably come. He took a deep breath and stepped down, and immediately found himself staring at a beautiful meadow filled with butterflies and flowers. The vivid colors and the sweet fragrance of the blossoms overwhelmed him, and he couldn’t help but smile.
